This was part of a campaign for a gourmet line of dog food from the pet food maker Fromm. They wanted the dogs as the chefs with some sense of sophistication. Needless to say I tried to do my best imitation of a William Wegman photo with a Chardin feel. The one exception with Chardin's paintings of animals is that they were always dead. I'd like to think these dogs are very much alive.
