Snoop Doggy Dog
—October, 2000
The Source, a magazine about Hip-hop culture, commissioned this portrait.
The article was profiling Snoop Doggy Dogg (Calvin Broadus). He recorded
a rap album titled "The Dogfather"
which had me thinking "Godfather" for this portrait. One
of the most memorable parts of the "Godfather" imagery was
the window blind in Don Corleone's office. So I felt that was crucial
but I wanted Snoop to be wearing a pit bull style Kangol cap in the
painting on. I wasn't to sure it would work but the final resolution
surprised me.
