Lovecraft's Pillow
—April, 2005
This was commissioned by Carol Kaufman at the LA Times (Sunday Book
Review Section). It was a critique of a book about the horror genre
originator, H P Lovecraft. And written by the contemporary horror great
Stephen King. In his praise of the book, he recalled a story of passing
by a thrift shop in Lovecraft's native Rhode Island and imagined, while
looking at the display window, seeing Lovecraft's own bed pillow. King
wrote of it being his greatest idea that never materialized because
of his admiration for the memory of H P Lovecraft.
