Michael Caine
—February, 2004
I hadn't painted anything for a few month before beginning this portrait
of Michael Caine. I was really drifting away from painting and obsessing
over my illness when I found this black and white photo in a magazine.
I thought I could do something with this portrait in color. All of
my oil paint remained inaccessible in a storage facility and I decided
to buy some jars of acrylic paint and see if I had it in me to work
the acrylics like my oils. It started me think about making paintings
again and less about my illness.
