The Village Voice in New York were doing a baseball preview for the 2007 season and wanted a cover image of Mets shortstop, Jose Reyes. A young, fast, and exciting player who was taking the New York City market by storm. Reyes stealing bases was a dynamic part of his game and I was compelled to show it. His head first slides were reminiscent of the great Rick Henderson. So I used photo reference of a Henderson steal along with a Reyes steal to mix the 2 styles.
